The conviction of a Kentucky woman in the 1997 roadside slaying of a 6-year-old girl and her parents in eastern Tennessee has been upheld by the state's high court.
The Greeneville Sun reported a six-judge panel denied Howell's petition for post-conviction relief last week.
Howell was 17 years old when she and five other people from Pikeville in eastern Kentucky abducted 34-year-old Vidar Lillelid, his 28-year-old wife, Delfina, and their daughter Tabitha at a rest stop on Interstate 81 in Greene County. Howell was the second youngest in the group, who ranged in age from 14 to 20.
