HOLIDAY DRIVING
Kentucky safety officials say find another way home if you drink

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Wednesday, July 2, 2014 3:31 AM EDT
FRANKFORT, Ky.

Kentucky safety officials know alcoholic beverages are part of Fourth of July celebrations and say planning ahead can help avoid a tragedy.

Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Director Bill Bell says alcohol impairs not only the ability to drive but also judgment about whether it's OK to drive.

The agency says designate a driver, call a taxi, have a sober friend or family member drive you or use public transportation.

The office also advises calling police if you see a drunken driver and taking the keys if someone you know is about to drive impaired.

The agency introduced a mobile app last year called "No DUI Kentucky" with information about taxi services and a one-touch feature to report a drunken driver. It's available in app stores or at http://www.DriverSoberKY.com .
