Reported: Monday, June 23, 2014 4:01 AM EDT
DANVILLE, Ky.

A preliminary report shows that Kentucky's public and private colleges and universities awarded 63,148 degrees and credentials during the past academic year. State officials say that amounts to a 1.2 percent increase from the prior year and a 60 percent increase in the past decade.

The statewide report shows growth at most levels of higher education. That includes undergraduate certificates and degrees at the associate, baccalaureate and doctoral levels.

The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education says baccalaureate degrees are up 3.4 percent from a year ago, with gains of 9.6 percent reported at independent colleges and universities and 1.6 percent in the public sector.

The council says associate degrees increased nearly 3 percent.

Over the past decade, baccalaureate degrees are up 30 percent, while associate degrees increased 56 percent.
