FLOATING RESTAURANT
Floating no more: Waterfront restaurant in northern Kentucky to be rebuilt on land

Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Sunday, June 22, 2014 5:25 PM EDT
COVINGTON, Ky.

The Waterfront restaurant, which twice broke free from its moorings on the Kentucky shoreline of the Ohio River, won't be floating when it reopens.

Owner Jeff Ruby told The Kentucky Enquirer that he is rebuilding the business from scratch on land.

The decision comes after crews have twice been called to fetch the restaurant barge.

In March 2011, the floating restaurant broke free from its dock and drifted about 100 feet downriver with 83 people on board. Then in February 2014, a chuck of ice knocked it loose with a maintenance person aboard.

Ruby said he didn't think it was safe to keep the structure on the water anymore.
