Kentucky road crews focused on patching potholes during break in wintry weather

Kentucky highway crews are taking advantage of the break from the recent wintry weather to deal with another nuisance caused by the snow and ice. They're busy patching potholes.
Albright says potholes begin with water seeping into roadway cracks. Freezing and thawing temperatures cause pavement to expand and break apart. The result is that small cracks can quickly become potholes.
For the next several weeks, state Transportation Cabinet highway crews will patch potholes every day the weather permits.
The cabinet asks motorists to be on the lookout for road crews and to report potholes along state routes.
