Presidents from Kentucky's biggest universities testified Thursday before a House panel, urging legislators to fight proposed cuts to higher education.
University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto says that continued state investment in revenue-producing medical programs is crucial to securing outside research dollars.
University of Louisville President James Ramsey says that continued stabilization of revenues from sports programs could also bolster on-campus student-support functions, such as tutoring and academic mentoring.
Both presidents say that continued cuts in public funding have compelled them to focus on private revenue generation, including partnerships with private entities and staff reductions.
