The state Public Service Commission has approved a settlement that will allow Columbia Gas of Kentucky Inc. to increase customer rates by less than half what the company sought.
The commission said in a news release the settlement was agreed to by Columbia Gas and other parties in the case, which are the state attorney general's office, the Kentucky Industrial Utility Customers Inc., Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, a community action group representing low-income customers and two gas marketers.
Under the agreement, the monthly bill for a customer using 10,000 cubic feet will increase by $4.72. Columbia Gas' proposal would have added more than $11 to the monthly bill.
Columbia Gas has about 134,000 customers in 30 counties in central and eastern Kentucky.
