Louisville Zoo wants to allow beer sales, reduce reliance on government funding
Reported by: Associated Press
Reported: Saturday, November 2, 2013 10:08 AM EST
The Louisville Zoo is seeking to allow patrons to enjoy a beer while looking at the bongos, baboons and other creatures.
Zoo spokeswoman Kyle Shepherd told The Courier-Journal beer would probably only be sold at concession areas and hard liquor only at special functions.
Service Systems Associates Inc. replaces Sodexo as the zoo concessionaire in the next couple weeks under a deal that gives the zoo 20 percent of concession sales, up from 12 percent under Sodexo.
Mayor Greg Fischer's spokesman, Chris Poynter, says the administration supports the plan to sell beer.
